David Nathaniel Vickery was born and raised in Aiken, South Carolina. A graduate of South Aiken High School, Class of 1992, Mr. Vickery continued his education at the University of South Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Music Education degree and a Performance Certificate in 1996. He later completed a Master of Science in Education degree from Walden University in 2012.
Mr. Vickery is married to Deborah Ann Walker Vickery, known as Debbie, and together they have two children, Stephen and Kaitlyn, both of whom have earned master’s degrees in the fields of accounting and finance. His parents, David and Vickie Vickery, continue to reside in Aiken.
For twenty-nine years, from 1997 through 2026, Mr. Vickery served as Director of Bands at Ninety Six High School. Throughout his distinguished tenure, the band program consistently earned Superior ratings at South Carolina Band Directors Association Concert Performance Assessment and Marching Band events. Under his leadership, the marching band maintained an extraordinary record as a Top 3 medalist for twenty consecutive years beginning in 2006, while also capturing 16 Upper State Championships and 12 Class 1A State Championships in 2006, 2009, 2013, 2015–2019, and 2022–2025.
Mr. Vickery’s marching band performed at the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas and participated in multiple Bands of America Regional Competitions. His students regularly participated in Region and All-State Band Clinics, as well as Solo and Ensemble events, and the band program received numerous Outstanding Performance Awards throughout the years.
Mr. Vickery’s dedication to musical excellence, student achievement, and community pride has left a lasting legacy at Ninety Six High School and throughout music education in South Carolina.
